Here at Abbey Labels, we are excited to announce further enhancements to our business as part of a major investment programme.
We have been working cohesively with MPS Systems and AB Graphics to enable us to bring die-cutting capabilities to our production facility, to increase our efficiency.
In a worldwide first, we have been able to integrate a high-speed die cutting module on to our newest flexo press.
This new development allows the speed of cutting to more than double compared to our previous single-anvil semi-rotary systems. The new semi-rotary die-cutting module boasts a top speed of 150m/min and a repeat of up to 508mm. Furthermore, we have not had to invest in additional tools, as the new die-cutting machine does not require any specific new cutters, allowing us to reuse cutters and flexible dies we already have.
We have been working on this project on the backburner for some time, having first been introduced to the original Fast Track Die Module at Drupa, the largest printing equipment exhibition in the world, back in 2016. However, Abbey Labels wanted to further enhance the capabilities beyond a finishing machine with fast capabilities; we envisioned integration onto a narrow web flexo press for increased more efficient production of labels.
Tom Allum, our Chairman, explains ‘The Fast Track Die was demonstrated as an inline solution for a digital press when we first saw it in action in Germany. My immediate reaction was that it would be a better fit on a flexo press, which prints at much higher speeds and so could take full advantage of this super-fast die-cutting capability.’
It was a natural choice to approach MPS Systems for this project, as we have worked with the Dutch manufacturer in the past with regards to our two most recent flexo presses.
We are extremely proud to bring this production capability to our customers, as part of our expansion programme which includes a £1.1m investment in an AB Graphic Digicon 3 finishing line, growing our flexo print department as well as expanding and reorganising the entire facility for increased workflow efficiency.
